About Botox, Xeomin and Dysport with Oasis Medaesthetics in Cary, NC

What are Botox, Xeomin and Dysport

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are prescription injectable treatments containing botulinum toxin. Depending on the specific product and treatment area, they can be used to temporarily improve the appearance of facial lines associated with muscle movement.

These treatments are commonly used for areas such as forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet around the eyes. Your provider will discuss the appropriate product, treatment areas and expected results during your consultation.

How Do Botox, Xeomin and Dysport Work?

Wrinkles can become more noticeable over time as facial muscles repeatedly contract with expressions such as smiling, squinting and frowning.

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport work by temporarily reducing nerve signals to selected muscles. This decreases muscle activity in the treated area, which can soften the appearance of certain dynamic lines and wrinkles.

Because treatment is targeted, the goal is not to eliminate facial expression. Our approach focuses on creating a refreshed appearance while maintaining natural movement.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

Wrinkle-relaxer appointments are typically quick and involve a series of small injections into carefully selected treatment areas. Your provider will first evaluate your facial movement and discuss your goals before determining the appropriate treatment plan.

Most appointments take approximately 10–15 minutes, although appointment time can vary depending on the areas being treated.

You can generally return to your normal activities shortly after treatment. Some patients experience temporary redness, swelling or tenderness at injection sites, and occasional bruising can occur.

Results do not appear instantly. Some patients begin noticing changes within several days, with results developing further over approximately two weeks.

How much treatment will I need?

It depends on several factors including: which area(s) you are trying to treat (11s, forehead, crow’s feet, etc), the strength of your facial muscles, and how deep your existing lines are.

Depending on the product, treatment area and your individual anatomy, wrinkle relaxers may be used to improve the appearance of facial lines such as:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Other expression-related facial lines

During your consultation, your injector will evaluate the areas you would like to address and determine whether a wrinkle-relaxing treatment is appropriate.

Does it hurt?

Not really – it feels like a pinch! The needle is small, thin, and it goes by quickly to decrease the possibility of pain. No numbing agents are needed.

What’s the downtime?

There’s virtually zero downtime with these treatments. Neurotoxins are often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure,” since most patients return directly to work or normal activity immediately. Some redness and swelling may occur at the injection sites, but it usually subsides within a few hours. Very rarely, patients may experience minor bruising.

How long do results last?

Results vary depending on the product used, treatment area, muscle activity and your individual response.

Many patients see results that last approximately 3–4 months, although some people may experience longer-lasting effects. Your injector can discuss what you may reasonably expect based on your treatment plan and previous response.

Botox vs. Xeomin vs. Dysport

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are different prescription botulinum toxin products that can be used for wrinkle-relaxing treatments. They have differences in formulation, dosing and characteristics, and individual responses can vary.

Rather than choosing a product based solely on brand name, we recommend discussing your goals and treatment history with your injector. Your provider can help determine which option may be appropriate for your specific treatment plan.

Are there any side effects?

Neurotoxin injections are very common, low risk procedures. Headache, minor bruising or swelling at the injection site are the most common but still rare side effects. As with any treatment, there are always risks which your nurse injector will walk you through prior to treatment.

What do I need to do before my neurotoxin appointment?

Pease don’t wear any makeup to your appointment. Our injectors need to be able to see your fine lines and wrinkles clearly.

People who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for neurotoxin treatment.
