What is PRP/PRF

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is created using a small sample of your own blood. The blood is processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate platelets and plasma.

What to Expect During and After PRP/PRF

Your appointment begins with an evaluation of your treatment goals and the area being treated.

A small amount of blood is collected and processed using a centrifuge to prepare the PRP or PRF. The prepared product is then injected into the selected treatment area.

Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated. Your appointment may take approximately 45 minutes to just over an hour, depending on your personalized treatment plan.

Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness or soreness may occur following injections.

Your provider will give you specific instructions for preparing for and caring for the treated area after your appointment.

When Will I See PRP Results?

Results vary depending on the treatment area, treatment plan and individual response.

PRP and PRF treatments are designed to work gradually rather than provide an immediate cosmetic change. Your provider can explain the expected timeline for your specific treatment.

How Many PRP Treatments Will I Need?

What do I need to do before my PRP appointment?

-Please arrive with clean skin so that we can properly assess your skin and determine where to make injections

-With permission from your prescribing physician stop taking blood thinners/daily aspirin

-Avoid NSAIDS (ie: ibuprofen), and/or Aleve for 1 week prior

-Avoid taking St. John’s Wort and Vitamin E for 1 week prior

-Avoid Retin-A, Tretinoin and Retinoids for 3 days prior

-Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior

-Start Arnica tablets the day before treatment

-No dental appointments 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks following the injectable appointment

Does it hurt?

Topical BLT numbing agents are applied to decrease sensitivity pre-treatment. You will be given an ice pack after treatment to help reduce the swelling if needed.

What’s the downtime?

One of the things that makes PRP so great is there’s little downtime. Immediately after the treatment, there may be redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness and / or itching at or near the injection site. These symptoms are normal and should resolve within a few days. But for this reason we do not recommend scheduling your appointment right before a big event.

How long do results last?

Results can be seen immediately after treatment and will get better over the course of 2-3 weeks as the PRP integrates with your tissue. PRP can last anywhere from 6-12 months depending on the number of sessions performed and the injection area.

What do I need to know post my PRP treatment?

-No makeup right after treatment

-No lying down for 4 hours

-Avoid touching your face for 24 hours post treatment except to apply aquaphor and arnica gel

-No exercise/working out for 24 hours

-Avoid extreme heat or cold for 24 hours

-No facials for 2 weeks

-For lip injections only: no straws, smoking, or heavy kissing for 2 weeks post treatment
