About Dermal Fillers & Biostimulators in Cary, NC

What are Dermal Fillers and Biostimulators

Dermal fillers are injectable products used to add or restore volume, enhance facial contours and improve the appearance of certain lines and wrinkles. Different filler products are made with different materials and have different characteristics, so the appropriate product depends on the treatment area and your individual goals.

Oasis Medaesthetics offers a range of dermal filler options, including products from the JUVÉDERM Collection, RHA Collection, Revanesse Collection and Radiesse.

Biostimulators, such as Sculptra, work differently from traditional hyaluronic acid fillers. Rather than simply adding volume immediately, biostimulatory treatments are designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen-production process over time.

Depending on the specific product and treatment area, dermal fillers may be used to enhance or restore volume and definition in areas such as:

  • Lips
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Nasolabial folds and other facial lines
  • Under-eye or midface areas when appropriate
  • Other areas where restoring volume or facial balance may be beneficial

Treatment is individualized based on your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. Not every filler is appropriate for every treatment area.

Your injector will discuss the differences between available treatments and determine which option or combination of treatments may be appropriate for your goals.

How Dermal Filler and Biostimulators Work

During your consultation, your injector will evaluate your facial structure, skin, existing volume and areas of concern.

Dermal fillers can add volume and structure to selected areas, helping to enhance contours, restore lost volume and improve the appearance of certain facial lines.

Biostimulators work differently. Products such as Sculptra are designed to stimulate collagen production, with results developing progressively over time rather than relying solely on immediate volume.

Depending on your goals, your treatment plan may include a dermal filler, a biostimulator or a combination of treatments.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

Treatment time varies depending on the product and areas being treated. Your appointment may take approximately 15 minutes to an hour.

Before treatment, your injector will discuss your goals, examine the treatment area and review your medical history and relevant medications or supplements.

Many dermal fillers contain lidocaine to improve comfort during injection. Additional comfort measures may also be available depending on the treatment area and product being used.

After treatment, temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur around the injection sites.

Some filler results may be visible immediately, while swelling can temporarily affect the appearance of the treated area. Certain treatments, particularly biostimulators, develop progressively over time.

The longevity of treatment varies significantly depending on the product, treatment area, amount used and individual response.

Some FDA-reviewed filler products have demonstrated effects lasting approximately 6 months or longer, with certain products showing effects lasting up to 24 months. Results vary by product and patient, so your injector can provide a more specific expectation during your consultation.

What do I need to do before my appointment?

-Please arrive with clean skin so that we can properly assess your skin and determine where to make injections

-Avoid NSAIDS (ie: ibuprofen), and/or Aleve for 1 week prior

-Avoid taking St. John’s Wort and Vitamin E for 1 week prior

-Avoid Retin-A, Tretinoin and Retinoids for 3 days prior

-Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior

-Start Arnica tablets the day before treatment

-No dental appointments 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks following the injectable appointment

Does it hurt?

Most dermal fillers contain lidocaine, a common anesthetic, which helps patients tolerate the minor pinching feeling associated with injections. We can also apply a topical numbing agent or inject lidocaine prior to injection in cases where it is not already mixed into the injectable product being used.

What’s the downtime?

One of the things that makes dermal fillers and biostimulators so great is there’s little downtime. Immediately after the treatment, there may be redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness and / or itching at or near the injection site. These symptoms are normal and should resolve within a few days. But for this reason we do not recommend scheduling your appointment right before a big event.

How long do results last?

Results can be seen immediately after treatment and will get better over the course of 2-3 weeks as the product integrates with your own tissue. Results can last anywhere from 6-24 months depending on the product used and the injection area.

How do I know which product to use?

We carry a wide range of dermal fillers and biostimulators including Juvederm, Versa, etc. Our nurse injector will meet with you to discuss the best options to meet your goals.
